Life for Carlitos, a boy of 13 who lives in a suburb of Medelin, in Columbia. The guerillas recruit boys from the region who kill to survive and to protect themselves. Carlitos intends to save the suburb from war and violence with no more than a small image of Our Lady of Help for a weapon. He carries her from house to house and listens to the bitter confessions from the inhabitants involving pain, suffering, fear, and death.
