Robert and Marie are a married couple, but could hardly be more different one from the other. She is a devoted pediatrician; he, a flighty director, invariably extremely selective and demanding. Robert is disconcerted by the clear way in which Marie organizes her life, just as, to her, his way of viewing each day, creating imaginary worlds in his mind, is a total mystery. Opposing personalities had drawn the two together, but lately, this has been the cause of conflict and discussion. One day, Robert has news that his father is suffering from an incurable disease and does not have much longer to live. In her rational way, Marie tries her best to help her confused husband, but when his father dies, Robert’ world comes apart. He throws himself into work and embarks on an affair with a prostitute. When Marie realizes she is being betrayed, she leaves him. However, for them, this will not be the end to an affair.
