Treading Water (2001)
Sobre o filme
Young Casey Olsen has never adhered to the norms set by her traditional family. With girlfriend Alexandra, she has recently moved to her native town on the coast of New England in order to start a company specialized in mending boats. She also intends to meet up with her family at Christmas, which she has not done for years. The encounter, however, can hardly be described as friendly. Casey’ conservative mother refuses to accept her daughter’ sexuality and, mainly, the awkward presence of Alexandra, whom she tries to send away from the house. To make matters worse, Alexandra refuses to leave and brings the situation to a deadlock. Casey’ suffering is greater in the measure in which she strives for her independence, in search of her own path, treading the dangerous fine dividing line between antagonic situations: to hurt others or to hurt herself.
