Ogino’ family is moving to another town. Akio and Yuko, the parents of the young girl Chihiro, are excited about the trip, as opposed to their daughter, who is reluctant to leave her friends behind. As they arrive in the new town, her father takes a short cut and ends up entering a tunnel. Even though she is afraid, Chihiro goes along with her parents. They find a mysterious and deserted town. Akio and Yuko come across a mouth watering banquet and start to devour it. Suddenly, the two are turned into pigs before the eyes of the terrified Chihiro. Lost and alone, the girl finds herself in a world crowded with spirits and gods. She is lucky to find Haku, a mysterious young man who decides to help her. The film was awarded the Oscar for best animation film and the Golden Bear at the Berlin Festival.
